Deng Chao’s great contrast guide and acting are excellent, and "The Road Back Home" is better than the characters!

"My Hometown and Me" is another new form of gift film that brings together the best contemporary Chinese director and actor resources. It continues the form of "My Motherland and Me" in a team and a story. The current best five comedy teams and hundreds of stars are performing together. It is the most anticipated film in the National Day schedule in 2020, and it is also the most championship-like film. What surprised me the most was the chapter of "The Road Home" brought by Deng Chao and Yu Baimei’s team. Both the director and the actor boldly broke through themselves and used the method of first suppressing and then raising to dedicate a story of small characters with huge contrasts.

As an actor, Deng Chao first made his debut on the big screen through the 2006 Feng Xiaogang war film "Assembly Number". The vivid image of the artillery company commander who looked like a "reincarnation of a hungry ghost" and ate pancakes proved his acting skills. In 2014, Deng Chao began to cooperate with Yu Baimei as a transition director, directing films such as "Breaking Up Master", "Villain Angel" and "Galaxy Tutoring School", which also proved his talent in directing. What is commendable is that Deng Chao holds up both directing and acting with one hand, insists on grasping both hands, and both hands have their own unique characteristics. In the film, television and variety shows, he still did not forget his duty as an actor. His performance "Burning Heart in the Sun" won the Best Actor Award at the Shanghai International Film Festival.

From the actor’s perspective, Deng Chao’s performance of "The Road Back Home" in the corner of the tree forest that first suppressed and then raised, the greasy and pompous image at the beginning, turned over through a moving story in the second half, solidified the background of the characters, and then looked back at all the actions at the beginning, which had a very reasonable psychological foundation, and even made people more admire his efforts. There was a very interesting detail in it. When the adult Qiao Lin returned to his hometown with the big gold chain at the beginning, he was full of ambition, but when he saw the teacher who had raised him hard looking at the tomb of the source of the wind and sand on the hill, he was greatly touched. He decided to transform and put all his hard-earned money into the sand control project.

From the director’s point of view, "The Road Home" uses the relationship between Qiao Shulin and Yan Feiyan to change, especially through Yan Feiyan’s attitude of 180 degrees to slowly lead out the story behind Qiao Shulin. Although it is limited by time, it has not been fully unfolded, but just talking about a few strokes has clearly depicted this ordinary flawed little character, especially the way of suppressing and then raising the character cleverly allows the audience to remember the character, and through more real prototype characters to show the simple but great side of these sand control heroes, truly achieving the touching effect in the ordinary.

There is also an interesting place. Deng Chao is originally from Jiangxi, but this time he dared to challenge the image of a peasant entrepreneur in northern Shaanxi across regions. In order to gain weight, become greasy, and learn dialects, if you don’t know in advance, you will almost think that he is a genuine Shaanxi person. Especially with Shaanxi’s Yan Ni, Miao Fu and other actors, the lines and performances are not awkward at all. The variability of Deng Chao’s personal acting skills is evident. In the past 20 years, Deng Chao has been completely independent of his image. He can not only play the domineering "Young Emperor", but also the fear of the humble auxiliary police. He even played two roles in Zhang Yimou’s "Shadow", showing his plasticity as an actor. It also makes people look forward to his next feature film, whether it is directing or acting, which can bring us more surprises!
