Look at the new changes in "food, clothing, housing and transportation" in the figures! Why are fruits and vegetables getting more and more expensive?
CCTV News:The four major things in life, food, clothing, housing and transportation are indispensable. Today, the National Bureau of Statistics released the semi-annual report on China’s economy in the first half of the year. What new changes have taken place in dressing, eating and housing travel from this semi-annual report? Why are the prices of fruits and vegetables getting more and more expensive? Why are such big items as televisions and refrigerators so much cheaper? What does all this data mean? Next, we will look for the answer from this semi-annual report.
First of all, let’s look at the changes in consumer prices across the country. According to the data released by the National Bureau of Statistics, the national consumer price CPI rose by 2.2% in the first half of the year compared with the same period of last year, among which, it rose by 2.7% in June, which was the same as last month, showing a moderate upward trend in general; In June, the price of food in CPI rose by 8.3%, while fresh fruit and pork rose rapidly. Non-food prices rose by 1.4%.
[Food] What pushed up the price of food?
Let’s take a look at the food price that accounts for the largest weight in China’s consumer price index and can reach 30%. For a long time, the increase in food prices has directly affected the performance of CPI. In the first half of this year, the increase in food prices has expanded. So, what factors have pushed up food prices?
In the first half of the year, food prices maintained a sustained upward trend, rising from 1.6% in January to 7.7% in May, almost exceeding the increase of CPI in that month. The "two brothers" of fresh vegetables and fresh fruits are holding hands and have been rising all the way since March. In addition to the decrease in supply caused by seasonal factors such as weather and natural disasters, the shortage of stocks and the fact that the new season fruits have not yet been listed are also one of the important rising factors. But don’t worry too much, as the seasonal factors recede, the price will soon return to a reasonable level. The latest data also shows that the prices of fresh vegetables and fresh fruits have dropped.
The rise in pork prices also began in March, and the pork prices, which are in a new round of rising cycle, are affected by multiple factors such as epidemics and epidemics, and the year-on-year increase has turned from negative to positive, rising rapidly.
Regarding the trend of food prices in the second half of the year, experts said that although the price of pork may rise slightly in the future, the price of vegetables is expected to continue to fall after entering the peak growth season. At present, the grain production situation is generally good this year, which helps to keep the overall food price stable.
There is little change in housing rent, and policy norms play a role.
In addition to food prices, the impact of housing prices on CPI is also obvious. In the current CPI statistics, housing prices are second only to food, including housing rents and the prices of water, electricity and fuel. In terms of housing rent, except that the rent price climbed to 2.7% after the Spring Festival, the increase in other months was below 2.4%, which was equivalent to the increase in the same period last year. This also shows that the policy effect of regulating the housing rental market has begun to appear in recent years.
In terms of water, electricity and gas, the year-on-year price increase is basically around 1.4%, which is lower than the increase of CPI. Nowadays, electricity price, water price and gas price will be more and more inclined to consume more, and the higher the price, the stronger the residents’ awareness of saving resources. In addition, in the data of the semi-annual report, the increase of household appliances, such as televisions and refrigerators, is below 0 in most months, which means that the price has not increased, but it has been much cheaper. However, the price increase of family services mainly based on labor has remained at around 5%, reaching 7.6% in January before the Spring Festival, which also means that labor is more and more valuable, and the income of workers engaged in family services is getting higher and higher.
The price increase of clothing remained at 2.0%
Let’s take a look at the changes in the price of clothing. In the first half of this year, the price increase of clothing generally showed a moderate growth trend. From the trend chart, we can see that the increase in the first six months remained at around 2.0%. Compared with the moderate increase of clothing and footwear prices, the clothing processing service fee has increased by more than 4% month by month, which indicates that labor costs have become the biggest cost of clothing enterprises. In addition to labor costs, the raw material costs of clothing enterprises have also increased, and online retailing has been accelerating, which has now become the first driving force in the clothing sales market.
[Line] Daily travel has always been a price vane
At present, in China’s current CPI survey, the weight of transportation price is not large, but it is an indispensable price vane for our daily travel. Is it cheap or expensive to buy a car in the past six months? What changes have been made to the money spent by ordinary people on refueling? What does all this mean? Let’s take a look.
In the first half of this year, the price of transportation generally showed a downward trend, but several parts that affected its change: vehicle fuel, vehicles, vehicle use and maintenance, rose and fell. In the past six months, the year-on-year increase of vehicle fuel prices was negative for most of the time, except for a few months when it was above 0. In other words, people’s spending on refueling is significantly lower than that of the same period last year. In 2013, the National Development and Reform Commission further improved the formation mechanism of China’s refined oil prices, and shortened the pricing and price adjustment cycle to 10 working days, which also made the linkage between domestic gasoline and diesel prices and international oil prices closer.
Among the transportation prices, the only one that keeps falling continuously is the transportation price. From the beginning of the year to the middle of the year, the decline has been stable at around 1% for six consecutive months, which means that we are getting cheaper and cheaper to buy a car. At the same time, however, the price of vehicle use and maintenance has continued to increase by about 2.7%, which means that while the price bubble in the automobile market is gradually being squeezed out, maintenance will become the bulk of the automobile consumption cost, and the rising labor cost is also the main reason for the rising maintenance price.
